Episode Review: 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 17 – “Don’t Drink the Water”

I Wanted to Hate It… But I Loved It So Much

I wanted to dislike this episode so bad — turns out I loved it so much. It was beautifully made and packed with so many moments I wasn’t ready for.

That Opening Scene? Cruel

First of all, opening the episode with Bobby and the rest of the 118, including that Diaz man, was torture at its finest. Like… why. And then I see Buck sitting at the table alone?? Tim Minear, when I find you…

We’ve been starving — literally missing more than five minutes of Eddie Diaz for episodes now — and then suddenly this episode gives us full-on domestic Buck and Eddie? The Diaz and Buckley family dynamic? I’m unwell.

Buck’s Grief, Finally

Like I said, the episode opens with the false reality of the 118 eating together as a family. It sets the stage for Buck’s grief — and how he’s been dealing with it. It was such a powerful storyline for him. I was honestly disappointed we didn’t see him more upset last episode, but now that we did? Turn it off before I cry.

Buck and Eddie: Art, Actually

Buck’s grief was felt — and Eddie’s too. That whole scene between them? Actual art. Dare I say, I’ve been waiting for this moment. If seeing Eddie on my screen for longer than five minutes was already too much, imagine this. I literally felt the storyline officially being built between the two.

Season 9 is our season, guys… I hope.

Honestly, Buck needed that moment. He needed his son (who’s not his son) and Eddie (who is his boyfriend, he just doesn’t know it yet). They are literally so husband coded, it’s insane. I think I hyperventilated like 10 times watching this episode.

Hen, Athena, and the Captain Question

Also, my dear Hen. I did want her to step up and become captain… but now I’m wondering who will. Hen, I love you, but who else is it gonna be? Buck? No offense, Buck, I love you, but you’re better off slamming doors down.

And does anyone else feel like Athena is going to have a big moment when the house is built and Bobby is gone? I need it. We got such a powerful moment from her last episode, but I dare say… I need another.

Eddie’s Reaction to Bobby… Devastating

One of the most heart-wrenching moments? Seeing Eddie find out about Bobby. Like, I KNOW YOU’RE JOKING. I literally had to pace around my room.

“He saved my life and I wasn’t there to save his.”

WHAT DO YOU MEAN???

Honestly, bring Bobby back and take him away again — I still don’t think it could be worse than watching that.

I’m Not Ready for the Season Finale

All I have to say is: I do not think I can last a summer without my precious 118. Next week is the last episode and I think I am officially in denial. I need more. No — I want more.

What do you mean we’re getting a Buddie roommates era?? What do you mean we might actually go canon next season?? It’s being built brick by brick and I’m not okay.

A Few Moments That Need to Be Mentioned:

  • Chimney building the crib
  • Maddie being pregnant — I love her
  • All the fire stations coming together — so nice
  • The end … haha
  • Athena building and keeping the house
  • EVAN CONFESSING
  • BUCK BEING CALLED CARINO

There’s so much more but if you want to see that, just go to Twitter.
