“Burning Red & Golden Daylight: We’re So Back and Belly Knows It Too”

Reviewing the official Season 3 trailer of The Summer I Turned Pretty

All I can say is that we’re so back.
I mean, I knew we were back the second Belly was seen wearing red and “Daylight” and “Red” were used in the teaser trailer—and now the official one?

I absolutely love you, Jenny Han, you devious mastermind with all these parallels and the classic romance movie references. One thing Jenny Han is going to do is eat it up.

Okay, let’s dive in. So obviously, we have Belly in her junior year of college when we leap four years forward. She’s with Jeremiah… Listen, I am not a Jeremiah hater—I just don’t like him, haha. Two different things.

If you read the book, you’ll know why they’re engaged. You know what that means: “Fresh out the slammer, I know who my first call will be too.” Like it’s messy, it’s emotional, and we already know it’s not built to last.

In the trailer, we see Belly running at the end—and if you saw the first look pictures, the dress matches when she’s with Jeremiah at what seems to be a party. Could you imagine “Lacy” playing while she’s running? Absolutely.

Also, the whole “Jeremiah is my future… first loves are important, but they’re not as important as lasts.” Belly, we know it’ll always be Conrad. He’s gone, but he’s never really gone. That Christmas scene—where she first sees him again after forever, she falls down the stairs, and he lies next to her? Those scenes are my favorite. That lingering tension will always be there.

We also see Belly and Jeremiah telling Laurel about the engagement, and we already know that does not go well. Honestly, the end scene of the trailer where Belly is walking down that aisle—we know it’s not to Jeremiah. HAHA.

Also, the music symbolism for us Swifties!! The cuts between “Daylight” and “Red” are soooo good. It’s definitely giving Conrad-is-endgame—that burning love for Conrad.

Reeling it back in on the mastermind Jenny Han is—the clear reference to The Notebook is killing me. Like yes, both sitting next to an ex who is engaged, but they will actually marry that person. Everything is so intentional with this show, and I love that. They’ll end up together just like my dear Allie and Noah. And they’ll definitely make me cry just like Allie and Noah.

There are so many moments in the trailer that are directly from the book too. I know there will be a different storyline from the book—and honestly, I will live for it. But those scenes, the most heartfelt ones from the book, like Agnes asking Conrad if he’s ever been in love? YESS. Book girlies know.

Or the infamous seeing-each-other-unexpectedly on Christmas? It’s a dear moment of mine—especially when she falls, and he carries her, and it’s her “Oh my god, I still love you” moment. Life is too short not to spend it with the person you love, y’all.

Moral of the story is: I loved the trailer, and my hardcover comes in today and I can’t wait.

Here’s the trailer if you haven’t seen it:
