Episode Review: The Buccaneers Season 2, Episode 3- “Get Her Out”

Okay I have many, many thoughts about Episode Three of The Buccaneers, Season Two. Sitting with the episode last night and reading the title, it hits harder the longer you sit with it.

I honestly did not see Nan telling Theo not only that she was with Guy the night before their wedding, but that she married Theo for his title. I like Theo—and more so, I like Theo and Nan. There was love there during Season One, and I know you all saw it. But nobody is gonna get in between my dear GuyNan. That being said, seeing how hurt Theo was by that news, as he never wanted to marry somebody or have somebody marry him because of his title or the fact that he was a Duke?

It was the most emotion I have seen from Theo all season—granted, the man just found out that his wife, the one he sleeps in a bed with and has shared moments with, is in fact not in love with him in the way one should be. It hurt to see Nan admit that to Theo as well. I know she cares for Theo, or at least that is what I see, but her heart belongs with Guy. (Me too.)

Do I have a little dislike for Nan playing Theo and using him for his title? Yes. But she was a pawn in his mother’s game, and she was as much a piece in this little board game as much as Theo was. You mean to tell me they can dissolve their marriage if Nan provides an heir? Yeah, I didn’t expect a crash-out from Nan—more so Theo—but rightfully so. I mean, I would’ve done far worse. That whole party would’ve seen the real me.

Seeing a different side to Theo’s mother makes me feel for her. I mean, you were once a Nan—you married for title, and you couldn’t be with your Guy—yet you are manipulating somebody I can only hope you relate to. Seeing this love she once had with Reede made me desperately want to go through my screen and shake some sense into her. Their dance to “Good Luck Babe” solidified it for me, the regret and the history between the two was bleeding through the screen.

Also a little fact I am sure few of you know: Greg Wise, who plays Reede Robinson, played Guy in the 1995 TV adaptation of The Buccaneers. The sweet, sweet breadcrumbs.

Now, like I said, I expected Theo’s crash-out, given the many reasons he had the right to—but I did not expect Nan to crash out so hard. Like, me too girl. I cannot wait for a GuyNan reunion—although next episode seems too soon? Thoughts? It would be amaze, but I can see something happening.

Now, something that was just a major moment of the episode was Theo and Lizzy. Can I just say this? Lizzy and her party were gorgeous—as the episode was centered around her Midsummer Night’s Dream-themed birthday bash. The party itself was gorgeous and appealing, and the makeup on the girls this episode, and the wardrobe choices? Phenom. I applaud the team.

Okay, back to Lizzy and Theo. I cannot believe Theo chose that moment to dim Lizzy’s moment and make her doubt her proposal and engagement to Hector. I do not hate that he did that, because clearly now there are some unspoken words between the two—hopefully. I just now know that Lizzy is running from Theo in the trailer, clearly. That moment is something I am oh so waiting for.

I am here for Theo and Lizzy, as long as Guy and Nan reunite before that. Please and thank you.

Now the separation between the two is killing me. Seeing two different lives, yet the yearn looming in the air is hurtful. I know we all saw that look Ginny gave Guy and her baby at the end—nope. I refuse. I also know we saw the look Ginny gave to Paloma—now I am here for that one.

  • Just some side threads: Conchita and Richard in full-on matchmaking mode, which I loved.
  • Cora warming up to the experience of finding a husband—and not only that, but warming up to Conchita.

I feel like this was the first episode I was truly astonished with. The scenes were beautiful and made me feel the emotions of the characters. Nan finally choosing herself and going to find Guy and her sister was a shift in the Nan we saw in the first two episodes. Lizzy stepping into her own fairy tale world—with Hector or Theo—was a cute moment and much needed for her. And I do not hate Dowager Duchess and Reede having their own love story—I am here for it.

This episode was beautiful and expressed all the hidden emotions we will see blossom further later this season. After all the course of true love never did run smooth.
